In New Jersey:
I decided today to take another listen to the state Senate Budget Committee hearing on a North Jersey casino resolution that I attended in Trenton on Dec. 17 (which left me with a 3 1/2 hour travel nightmare back to the office, but I digress).
A fresh listen helped provide a lot more context to where that chamber stands – and in spite of the current stall, it suggests that a lot of progress has been made. While there will be no casino referendum without a reconciliation – figuratively and literally – between state Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, it appears that the battle may already have been won in the legislative trenches. So it’s just the generals who need to agree (well, and the rank and file – the voters – should the Legislature achieve peace in our time.
